I was brought up in a place where, to catch a bus one needed to walk for 5km and of course if lucky, the bus would come at the same time of the day! But then I was fortunate enough to attend a school quite nearer(say 2km from my home). We had the luxury of few extra holidays during the rainy season, as the rivers used to swallow the small bridges temporarily!
Well, I belong to a lower middle class family with agriculture as the sole source of income. My parents made sure that we got 3 meals a day. In my 4th standard I came across this question in an exercise provided by the teacher, "What you want to become in life?" I still remember answering that I wanted to become an engineer. I wrote that in Kannada as my education till 10th standard was instructed in Kannada medium school run by the Government).
Higher education in a city like Bangalore was quite a distant dream as the cost involved was too high for a person of my background and the haunting factor was the debt my family was already in.
Today I'm working as a Graduate engineer at Delphi automotive system Private Ltd. I had quite a decent ranking in state CET exams (1315), and this assured me an engineering seat in the prestigious BMS College of engineering. However, the job was not done yet as one question was still mocking "How do I pay the fees and meet the accommodation expenses?”
The rays of hope started sparkling for me in the name of FFE and my mind became clearer with the sense of relief. My college tuition fees and the cost for text books were taken care by the FFE. Their assistance didn’t end there as they offered to guide me as well. If asked to say the best thing about FFE, I would say it’s not just the money but the money with proper guidance and advice that was provided by them. I was fortunate to have Dr. N R Ramesh, as my facilitator. He helped me not just with the academics but also on basic life skills.
Often, I wake up with the thought, “What if there were no such organizations like FFE?” This thought sends a sense of shock through my nerves as I don't know where I would have been. Therefore, I express my sincere thanks to the Founder Dr. Prabhu Goel and his team with all due respect for their vision and the generosity. “Sir, it’s your vision and willingness to serve the society, that is turning the dreams of thousands of students like me into reality.” Thank you.
Today I'm able to manage the expenses of my own sister who is currently studying engineering. After her education, I will be able to bear the expenses of one more brother/sister of FFE family and then another and I look forward to it.
